The Viking Answer Lady

http://www.vikinganswerlady.com/index.shtml

The Viking Answer Lady was chosen as best "Vikings" site on the Web in the April 2000 issue of the net, the UK's biggest Internet magazine. I think that's a pretty good endorsment. Her site is usually my first stop whenever I'm looking for something about Vikings. Bookmark this site!

Viking Resources for the Re-enactor

Excellent SCA site that includes links for a simple Viking hat and a page on historical tunic construction. Also includes sections with links on;
Textiles
Cooking and Foodstuffs
Physical Culture
Wordfame: SCA Display and Ceremony

The Costumer's Manifesto

http://www.costumes.org/history/100pages/costhistpage.htm

This is a very long page of links-both informational and stuff to buy. No real Viking specific links, but lots period information-check out the books that they feature all over the site.

Best place to find Chainmail - ebay

Most butted mail comes from the same place - Pakinstan. So it pays to shop and ebay has turned out to be the best so far. Three of us have bought from seller 'sussen' of Von Sussen Enterprises. You can expect to pay less than $100 for a shirt and very reasonable shipping (I paid $109 delivered).

Always check the shipping! For example; a member recently found what seemed like a great deal online (www.realarmorofgod.com), $97. When I checked the shipping though, it was $54! So now you're looking at $151 - not a very good deal.
Best Deals on Helmets - www.Cheaperthandirt.com
Hagar ran across these deals; the first one is a Norman type helmet, item # GIFT-210 $29.97. This one is perfect for later Viking Age and Early Medieval period. No liner, but well-made for the price. Expect to pay about $10.00 shipping.
Also from www.Cheaperthandirt.com, this one has an earlier look to it with a nice chainmail aventail. The nasal has a good look to it too. It's item #GIFT-202 $43.97. No liner, but it fits all of our big heads!  Again, about $10.00 shipping.

As always, feel welcome to stop by our encampment to ask questions about costuming & armour. We're happy to share our experiences & hard-found wisdom.
